Book Description:
Raise one last glass with the Quinn Family at the Winter Street Inn.
It’s been too long since the entire Quinn family has been able to celebrate the holidays under the same roof, but that’s about to change. With Bart back safe and sound from Afghanistan, the Quinns are preparing for a holiday more joyous than any they’ve experienced in years. And Bart’s safe return isn’t the family’s only good news: Kevin is enjoying married life with Isabelle; Patrick is getting back on his feet after paying his debt to society; Ava thinks she’s finally found the love of her life; and Kelly is thrilled to see his family reunited at last. But it just wouldn’t be a Quinn family gathering if things went smoothly. A celebration of everything we love–and some of the things we endure–about the holidays, WINTER SOLSTICE is Elin Hilderbrand at her festive best.
Thoughts:
Remember when I said that the first book of this series had me feeling “meh,” but since a friend told me to read them I stuck with them… Well, now I just want to keep reading all about the Quinn Family Drama as I feel like I’m a guest that keeps going back to the inn for the holiday. (Side note: this is also a sequel to The Rumor so you will recognize some other characters in this book – which if I hadn’t read as many of her books as I have, may have been very confusing so want to put that out there to maybe read before this one – or before you read this series).
I think there is still a lot to sort out with the Quinn Family and would love to see another book – simply because I’m used to how the drama is going to unfold, but that it all ties up (for the most part) in the end. I love how accepting and loving this family is for their children and their spouses. I was cheering on Norah as I found her to be the one character who truly grew and changed (although a minor character), and I enjoyed reading that. I absolutely loved that each kid “failed” in some way, but that Kelly, Margaret and Mitzi continued loving and encouraging each person. I also have a deeper appreciation for Margaret’s appearance in the Paradise series (and YES – will be going back to re-read that section to get an update for where all of the Quinn Members currently are at in their lives as I couldn’t appreciate that at the time).
Overall, I really enjoyed this series. They had drama, were fast paced, and one of the things I admire the most when reading a Hilderbrand book, is I feel like I know the characters. It can be confusing at times (which is why I’m trying to work on reading her books in book release order), as I love how she will carry characters over into other novels. It makes me feel like I am part of Nantucket and if I’m ever there, that I will run into one of them on the street. This was a great winter series to read that was a change of pace from what I currently read.
