Book Description:

Something hasn’t been right at the roadside Sun Down Motel for a very long time, and Carly Kirk is about to find out why in this chilling new novel from the USA Today bestselling and award-winning author of The Broken Girls.

Upstate New York, 1982. Viv Delaney wants to move to New York City, and to help pay for it she takes a job as the night clerk at the Sun Down Motel in Fell, New York. But something isnʼt right at the motel, something haunting and scary.

Upstate New York, 2017. Carly Kirk has never been able to let go of the story of her aunt Viv, who mysteriously disappeared from the Sun Down before she was born. She decides to move to Fell and visit the motel, where she quickly learns that nothing has changed since 1982. And she soon finds herself ensnared in the same mysteries that claimed her aunt.

Thoughts:

Do you believe in ghosts?! 🙋🏼‍♀️ You will need to stretch your imagination for this one, but I’m telling you – it works! Personally, I do believe in them, so this book was equal parts spooky, suspenseful, and murder mystery and I loved every second of it.

This is told in alternating POVs from Viv’s in 1982 and Carly’s in 2017, which by now I’m sure you know is one of my favorite styles. The suspense around Viv trying to solve a local string of murdered women, and Carly trying to find her aunt, keeps you jumping from one chapter to the next trying to find out if Viv was a victim and where her body is. Throw in a creepy old haunted motel, and it makes you want to keep the lights on at night and check under the bed.

This made for a great winter read (although is perfect for Fall). Between the setting, writing style and pace of this book, I highly recommend it if you’re looking for a good thriller.
