Book Description:
Sadie and Will Foust have only just moved their family from bustling Chicago to small-town Maine when their neighbor Morgan Baines is found dead in her home. The murder rocks their tiny coastal island, but no one is more shaken than Sadie.
But it’s not just Morgan’s death that has Sadie on edge. And as the eyes of suspicion turn toward the new family in town, Sadie is drawn deeper into the mystery of what really happened that dark and deadly night. But Sadie must be careful, for the more she discovers about Mrs. Baines, the more she begins to realize just how much she has to lose if the truth ever comes to light.
Thoughts:
Ok – I LOVE Mary Kubica. Ever since The Good Girl I have been hooked on her writing style and this book did NOT disappoint. The first 200 pages I had no idea what was going on, but then I slowly started to piece things together.
This was full of multiple surprises and twists (some I thought you could figure out but others were harder to foresee). I love multiple POVs and that added to both the elements of confusion (in a good way) and suspense.
There were multiple layers to piece together in this book that kept me turning the pages quickly. While it was hard to understand everything in the beginning, once you see the pieces being put together it made me want to go back and re-read some of the early chapters. Kubica’s writing style is so unique and the way she is able to write with so much confusion, but also so much clarity, makes her books fast and good reads.
This was full of suspense, domestic thriller, death, grief, troubled teenagers, suicide, rebellion, jealousy, abuse and darkness. It was twisted and wonderful! I can’t wait to see what Netflix does with this, as it was a complex and enjoyable read.
