Book Description:
The circus arrives without warning. No announcements precede it. It is simply there, when yesterday it was not. Within the black-and-white striped canvas tents is an utterly unique experience full of breathtaking amazements. It is called Le Cirque des Rêves, and it is only open at night.
But behind the scenes, a fierce competition is underway—a duel between two young magicians, Celia and Marco, who have been trained since childhood expressly for this purpose by their mercurial instructors. Unbeknownst to them, this is a game in which only one can be left standing, and the circus is but the stage for a remarkable battle of imagination and will. Despite themselves, however, Celia and Marco tumble headfirst into love—a deep, magical love that makes the lights flicker and the room grow warm whenever they so much as brush hands.
True love or not, the game must play out, and the fates of everyone involved, from the cast of extraordinary circus performers to the patrons, hang in the balance, suspended as precariously as the daring acrobats overhead.
Written in rich, seductive prose, this spell-casting novel is a feast for the senses and the heart.
Thoughts:
I absolutely loved this book! This is typically not my normal genre, but I am so glad I read this book. It was a Circus version of Romeo and Juliet, with so much depth and beauty, it’s very hard to put into words. It was full of pages of beautiful quotes I wrote down, so naturally, I need to share a few:
“People see what they wish to see. And in most cases, what they are told that they see.” (Pg 28)
“It is part of who I was, who I am, and who I will be.” (Pg 66)
“It is hers… I can feel it. It is like knowing a storm is coming, the shift in the air around it. As soon as I walked into the tent I could sense it, and it is stronger closer to the tree itself. I am not certain it would be perceptible if one were unfamiliar with such sensation.” (Pg 128)
“It is these aficionados, these rêveurs, who see the details in the bigger picture of the circus… They are enthusiasts, devotees. Addicts. Something about the circus stirs their souls, and they ache for it when they are absent… They seek each other out, these people of such specific like mind… And as they go their separate ways they feel less alone than they had before.” (Pg 143)
“Secrets have power. And that power diminishes when they are shared, so they are best kept well. Sharing secrets, real secrets, important ones, even with one person, will change them… So it’s really best to keep the secrets when you have them, for their own good, as well as yours.” (Pg 173)
“Magic. This is not magic. This is the way the world is, only very few people take the time to stop and note it. Look around you. Not a one of them even has an inkling of the things that are possible in this world, and what’s worse is that none of them would listen if you attempted to enlighten them. They want to believe that magic is nothing but clever deception, because do you think it really would keep them up at night, afraid of their existence.” (Pg 380)
“It is important. Someone needs to tell those tails… There’s magic in that. It’s in the listener, and for each and every ear it will be different, and it will affect them in ways they can never predict. From the mundane to the profound. You may tell a tale that takes up residence in someone’s soul, becomes their blood and self and purpose. That tale will move them and drive them and who knows what they might do because of it, because of your words. That is your role, your gift. Your sister may be able to see the future, but you yourself can shape it, boy. Don’t forget that. There are many kinds of magic, after all.” (Pg 381)
I mean, this is the narrowed down list, but is that gives you any insight to the beautiful words strung together in this book, I suggest you read this, or add it to your TBR if you haven’t already.
This book summaries why I absolutely love to read… To be able to FEEL, as this book moved me. It had so many beautiful lines i equated to Life, and yet there was this beautiful story underneath it all. As you can tell, I highly recommend this book!
