Book Description:

The Unhoneymooners meets The Hating Game in this breezy debut romantic comedy about life--and love--30,000 feet above the ground.

After ten years as a flight attendant, Ava Greene is poised to hang up her wings and finally put down roots. She's got one trip left before she bids her old life farewell, and she plans to enjoy every second of it. But then she discovers that former pilot Jack Stone--the absurdly gorgeous, ridiculously cocky man she's held a secret grudge against for years--is on her flight. And he has the nerve to flirt with her, as if he doesn't remember the role he played in the most humiliating night of her life. Good thing she never has to see him again after they land....

But when their plane encounters mechanical problems, what should have been a quick stop at the Belize airport suddenly becomes a weekend layover. Getting stuck on a three-hour flight with her nemesis was bad enough. Being stranded with him at a luxury resort in paradise? Even with the sultry breeze and white sand to distract her, it will take all the rum punch in the country to drown out his larger-than-life presence.

Yet the more time Ava spends with him under the hot Caribbean sun, the more she begins to second-guess everything she thought she knew about him...and everything she thought she wanted from her life. And all too soon, she might have to choose between keeping her feet on the ground and her head in the clouds....

Thoughts:

This was an adorable Love/Hate RomCom. I loved Ava’s character. She had so much strength, independence, a carefree spirit, and a pure heart. The relationship between her and Alexander (I loved that he was never an “Alex”), was well written, as I never wanted to hate him. I liked the way Ava thought she wanted stability and was making parts of herself small, only to realize she wasn’t living into who she truly was. As much as this was a RomCom, it was also a book about Ava discovering who she really was and what wanted to be, which I enjoyed and could relate to.

I loved Ava and Jack. Their characters were so wonderfully written and enjoyed learning about Jack and his past. Every character in this book was misunderstood in some way, and that added to the enjoyment of the book, as it was lighthearted, yet had substance.

This was a very enjoyable book about love, relationships, friendships, misconceptions, family, parents, expectations and discovering who you are. Great read!

✈️ There are people in the world who live by the adage that new is better. To me, it's the things that have lasted that are the most valuable. The things that have proven they can be counted on. (Page 12)

✈️ I've never actually spoken to anyone else about this. I've never really even let myself consider there might be a balance. I've just been hell-bent on building a life that's the opposite of my parents’. Until yesterday, I couldn’t allow myself to face the fact that life on the road might be permanent. That I might want – maybe even need – it to be.

“I just,” I say slowly, “ would like to find a way to feel both free and settled at the same time. If that’s possible.“ (Page 227-228)

✈️ Do you know how hard it is to find someone you actually admire? Not because they're pretty to look at which, by the way, you are, beautiful, in fact-but because they make the world better just by being in it? (Page 249)

✈️ "It's just because I'm scared. I worry, if I'm not easy enough to be around, I'll get left behind." (Page 250)

✈️ Today. That's what it always comes down to, isn't it? The choice to live life for today or the future. But what is the future, really? Does it even exist? I keep trying time I wake up, it's today again. (Page 250)

✈️ They changed the course of their lives that day. And they've never regretted it. I doubt they would've even if they hadn't ended up being soul mates. My parents aren't the kind of people who question their decisions. They pursue happiness at any risk. And they find it - always - in the little things and the big. (Page 277)

✈️ “[…] Relationships aren't made up of a single day. They're a collection of moments and feelings. If you care for Mason, and he cares for you, do you really want to fight over a mistake that was made in a single moment?" (Page 289)
