Book Description:

She’s got his back.

Hannah Brooks looks more like a kindergarten teacher than somebody who could kill you with a wine bottle opener. Or a ballpoint pen. Or a dinner napkin. But the truth is, she’s an Executive Protection Agent (aka "bodyguard"), and she just got hired to protect superstar actor Jack Stapleton from his middle-aged, corgi-breeding stalker.

He’s got her heart.

Jack Stapleton’s a household name―captured by paparazzi on beaches the world over, famous for, among other things, rising out of the waves in all manner of clingy board shorts and glistening like a Roman deity. But a few years back, in the wake of a family tragedy, he dropped from the public eye and went off the grid.

They’ve got a secret.

When Jack’s mom gets sick, he goes home to the family’s Texas ranch to help out. Only one catch: He doesn’t want his family to know about his stalker. Or the bodyguard thing. And so Hannah―against her will and her better judgment―finds herself pretending to be Jack’s girlfriend as a cover. Even though her ex, says no one will believe it.

What could possibly go wrong?

Hannah hardly believes it, herself. But the more time she spends with Jack, the more real it all starts to seem. And there lies the heartbreak. Because it’s easy for Hannah to protect Jack. But protecting her own, long-neglected heart? That’s the hardest thing she’s ever done.

Thoughts:

Who doesn't love a good RomCom?! This book was so good, and I loved the whole premise of it. Between the strong main female character (this is apparently a new theme for me - unintentially), to the building romance, and the humor in this book, it was a great read.

I did the audio and wanted to speed up the speed (I didn't) because I couldn't get enough out of the romance between Jack and Hannah. They were adorable and I loved them and their banter and how this story played out. Throw in some family drama, and you have a great beach read. This was a super easy, uplifting, heartwarming read that I definately recommend!

🌺 So I decided something right then: Every chance you take is a choice. A choice to decide who you are. (Page 259)

🌸 I mean, sure, we should all just know our own inherent worth, and see our own particular beauty, and root for ourselves wherever we go.

But does anybody really do that?

It doesn't hurt to have a little help, right? It doesn't hurt to spend your life with people who see what's great about you - in a way that you maybe never would have on your own.

The people we love help teach us who we are.

The best versions of who we are, if we're lucky. (Page 302)
