Thoughts:
J.T. Ellison is one of my favorite authors. Her novels are like reading a puzzle where you get bits and pieces of information that are slowly placed together in the end to make a beautiful picture. Simply put, I really enjoyed this book.
I am a sucker for titles and the play on the title with both Mindy and Lauren worked for me. I loved the exchange of letters strategically placed throughout the book to give you a little bit of information and tease on who the letters are between. As always, the alternating times and locations are done at precise moments, right when you think you will be getting more information it jumps to keep you reading with intensity to get back to unraveling the multiple layers in this book.
I really enjoyed this book, but my reason for the 4-5 star (and not a straight 5 star), is that I found it a bit predictable. Although it definitely took some turns I didn’t see in the beginning, there wasn’t a moment when I was in complete shock over what was revealed. BUT, the story itself was beautifully written and very captivating from the first chapter to the end. I know this isn’t fair, but she’s also one of my favorite authors, so I may hold her to a higher standard as I know I normally get a complete shock I didn’t see coming. If this had been my first read of hers, it probably would have been a 5 star, so don’t let my rating sway your decision in reading this, as it is well worth the almost 500 pages.
