Book Description:
At age twenty-one, Auburn Reed has already lost everything important to her. In her fight to rebuild her shattered life, she has her goals in sight and there is no room for mistakes. But when she walks into a Dallas art studio in search of a job, she doesn’t expect to find a deep attraction to the enigmatic artist who works there, Owen Gentry.
For once, Auburn takes a chance and puts her heart in control, only to discover that Owen is keeping a major secret from coming out. The magnitude of his past threatens to destroy everything important to Auburn, and the only way to get her life back on track is to cut Owen out of it.
To save their relationship, all Owen needs to do is confess. But in this case, the confession could be much more destructive than the actual sin.
Thoughts:
Ok – this book pulled on my heartstrings!! From the introduction of young love, to Fate, Love, abuse, control, power, expression of art, relationships between parents and children, sacrifice and loss. This book gave me ALL THE FEELS!
My heart literally broke for both situations Auburn and Owen are in and how they got there. I sympathize so much with characters that get stuck in tough situations, due to the love they have for other people. I think oftentimes we try to shelter people from pain and protect them at our own expense, not realizing what those decisions are going to mean. I don’t want to say too much, as this book is full of so surprises, and yet, is all tied up in the end. There were questions I had early on that were not answered until the last pages and they are the type of answers that make your heart swell and look at the book slightly different than you previously had. I love when a book does that, and this book absolutely did not disappoint. I highly recommend it, but then again, I haven’t met a Colleen Hoover book I don’t recommend.
