Book Description:

'Tis the season for a Bromance Book Club matchmaking mission! This time, they're pulling out the mistletoe for everyone's favorite country music star, Colton, and his second chance at love.

Country music’s golden boy Colton Wheeler felt the most perfect harmony when he was with Gretchen Winthrop. But for her, it was a love him and leave him situation. A year later, Colton is struggling to push his music forward in a new direction. If it weren’t about to be the most magical time of year and the support of the Bromance Book Club, he’d be wallowing in self-pity.

It’s hard for immigration attorney Gretchen not to feel a little Scrooge-ish about the excess of Christmas when her clients are scrambling to afford their rent. So when her estranged, wealthy family reaches out with an offer that will allow her to better serve the community, she’s unable to say no. She just needs to convince Colton to be the new face of her family’s whiskey brand. No big deal…

Colton agrees to consider Gretchen’s offer in exchange for three dates before Christmas. With the help of the Bromance Book Club, Colton throws himself into the task of proving to her there’s a spark between them. But Gretchen and Colton will both need to overcome the ghosts of Christmas past to build a future together.

Thoughts:

I like a romance that has substance (yes, I know I overuse that word!) where the characters are direct with their feelings but there are also actual issues going on in the book that you get to follow. I also enjoy a good book where people meet one another by happenstance, as I feel there are a lot of people who meet their significant other online these days.

I, also, love that a romance novel where the characters are honest with their feelings, but gets in depth on why things will or won’t work out - and this series always delivers! I love the actual book withing the story, too. I love that there is steaminess, yet it isn’t over-the-top and still have a good storyline to follow. I really enjoy the selflessness both Colton and Gretchen show one another, while also working on overcoming things from their past. This was another great Bromance novel and these are always going to give good content with a happy ending.

Favorite Quotes:

🎄 "That is guilt. You're directly blaming your own family's wealth for everyone else's lack of it."

"No, I blame a system that allows one family like mine to ac cumulate so much wealth at the expense of others. That's why I get at Christmas. Rich people rush to get in their last so annoyed minute charitable donations so they can write it off on their taxes in January, while others are forced to choose between dinner and an empty stocking for their kids. How did the world get so unequal?” (Page 91)

🎄 "A place like this is a gift. How can you just throw it away?"

"It's not a gift. It's a curse."

He studied her face in the firelight. Gone was the hard-edged annoyance from before, replaced by a softer and far more devas tating emotion. Loneliness.

Sadness oozed off her like melting snow.

"What happened?"

She looked over quickly. "What?"

"What made you hate this place so much?"

"Nothing."

"No one hates a house the way you hate this one without a reason. And that reason is usually not the house itself but what happened inside it." (Page 168)

🎄This was a family.

It didn't matter that they weren't related. They were a family in every other way. The kind of family that teased one another and hugged one another and gave one another gifts and snuggled one another's children. The kind of family that celebrated Christmas together.

The kind of family she'd never been part of and had no idea how to be part of now. (Page 235)

🎄 "But my dad said "

"Who wants this, J. T.? You or your dad?"

"I do. But, I mean, he wants it for me too."

"But he doesn't have to do the work. He doesn't have to pour his heart out into a song and then hear people trash it. He doesn't have to spend months on the road touring. He doesn't have to carry the burden of knowing that other people's lives depend on your success. It's your life and your music. Don't let anyone else craft an image for you just because they think it will sell. Sooner or later, that image will start to feel like a costume that you just don't want to wear anymore. You gotta do what makes you happy." (Page 259)
